I am Rachida and qualified as a Forest
school leader in August 2023. It is recent although it was a long process.
I have been willing to become a Forest School Leader for a while but never could attend the training: it was never the right time.
At the end of August 2022, I enrolled on a course and officially started my Forest School journey.
As you learn, your thoughts evolve and you realise that Forest School is not only for children: Forest School appeals to anyone.
Once qualified, I named my venture "LTP Outdoor Hub" and not "Forest School".
I feel the Forest School label is narrowing and reductive to children. Being outdoors, in nature and more specifically in the woods, benefits your body and mental health, whether you are a child or an adult.
I have a profound interest in the benefits of Forest School on children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
I achieved a certificate in Therapeutic Skills for outdoor Leaders and trained in Makaton Levels 1 to 4. I offer short videos on Instagram to share Makaton/BSL signs.
I believe being inclusive is not only about saying your setting is: "You have to put in the effort to be more inclusive".
